2008 Davis Cup quarterfinal results
The four strongest teams prevailed this weekend as eight of the world’s top tennis nations competed in the 2008 Davis Cup quarterfinals.
With France losing both of its star players to injury, the American team had little difficulty in moving through to the semi-finals of the 2008 Davis Cup with a comprehensive 3-1 victory. France’s only win of the quarterfinal tie came courtesy of the doubles match-up where Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra defeated America’s hyped up Bryan brothers in a four set thriller.
Meanwhile the Russian team had a harder time disposing of the Davis Cup team from the Czech Republic, eventually prevailing 3-1 after four dramatic matches, two of which went to five sets. The win was Russia’s 16th consecutive Davis Cup win at home.
In Germany, Spain faced little resistance from a weak German side who crumbled to a 3-0 defeat, with Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer easily outplaying their opponents in the singles matches.
Finally, an injured David Nalbandian put Argentina through to the 2008 Davis Cup semi-finals by winning a 5 set doubles battle against Sweden, ably assisted by Guillermo Canas. The Swedes picked up a solitary singles victory as they were eliminated from the 2008 Davis Cup quarterfinals.
