Davis Cup Bets
We look at the teams who we believe will have a fighting chance to lift the 2008 Davis Cup – the top five ranked countries.
For live tennis betting we use William Hill, one of the world’s largest and most reputable betting companies.
Team Russia
The Russians are looking awesome. Ranked no.1 in the ITF World rankings, Russia has lifted the trophy on two occasions, in 2002 and 2006.
With the likes of Nikolay Davydenko, ranked no.4 on the ATP singles rankings, and previous Australian Open Champion, Marat Safin, as chief protagonists, Davis Cup bets are that they again will reach at least the semifinal berth in the 2008 Davis Cup.
Russia has played in the World Group for 15 consecutive years, the 2nd longest ongoing streak in history.
Team Argentina
Captained by Alberto Mancini, Argentina has yet to win the Davis Cup. They have, however, competed in the World Group for 6 successive years and in all of these years they have advanced to, at least, the quarterfinal stage, earning them a ranking of no.2.
David Nalbandian is one of the players to watch in the sky blue and white colours and a match off between he and arch rival Lleyton Hewitt of Australia is sure to get tongues wagging. The two players are known to dislike each other with intensity.
Team Croatia
Currently ranked no.3 on the ITF rankings, Croatia has lifted the Davis Cup once in the 15 years it has contested the event. They defeated Slovak Republic 3-2 and became the first unseeded nation to win in World Group history, exhibiting not only skill, but tenacity, making them a dead ‘cert’ for future Davis Cup Bets.
Two of their top guns, Mario Ancic and Ivo Karlovic, had to withdraw because of injury in 2007, but team captain, Goran Prpic, expects them to be back at full strength for 2008.
Team USA
The most dominant Davis Cup contender in history, 4th ranked Team USA, has taken the coveted title on 31 separate occasions. In the past 16 years, however, they have only managed to take the title twice, in 1992 and 1995.
Davis Cup bets are that they will, however, remain in contention in 2008, as Andy Roddick, ranked no.5 on the ATP rankings, James Blake, ranked no.8 and the Bryan Brothers, ranked no.1 doubles team, are capable of beating anyone on the day.
Team Spain
The Red Fury, as Team Spain is better known as, failed to reach the 2007 semifinals, having lost to the USA 4-1. Currently ranked no.5, Spain has been successful in the Davis Cup on two occasions, in 2000 and in 2004.
What makes Team Spain a very good 2008 Davis Cup Bet is that they have competed in the illustrious World Group for 11 consecutive years. If the likes of World no.2, Rafael Nadal, are available to play next year, then Spain will have an excellent chance of outgunning their rivals.
For live tennis betting we recommend William Hill.
