Bjorn Borg
Swedish tennis legend Bjorn Borg holds the Davis Cup record for the longest winning streak, with an impressive 33 crushing the previous record set in the 1920s by Bill Tilden. 1975 saw Sweden lifting the Davis Cup for the very first time, and without the genius of Borg, the outcome could have been very different – he won the deciding rubber against Czech Jan Kodes.
Todd Woodbridge
Australia’s premier doubles player turned professional in 1988. Together with partner Mark Woodforde, the “Woodies” contested the Davis Cup doubles for 7 years. Of the 16 ties played, they won all but 2 matches.
Henri Leconte
The Frenchman has the dubious honour of being the only world-class player never to have won a singles Grand Slam title. He has, however, always regarded the French win against the United States in the 1991 Davis Cup finals as his personal highlight. He defeated Pete Sampras in straight sets and then teamed up with Guy Forget to win the doubles rubber, creating one of the biggest upsets in the modern tournament.
Pete Sampras
American tennis great “Pistol” Pete Sampras is the all-time leader in Grand Slam championships, winning 14 titles – 7 Wimbledon singles, 2 Australian Open titles and 5 US Open singles titles. He was instrumental in the United States lifting the Davis Cup Trophy in 1992 and 1995, and his personal Davis Cup record stands at 15-8 in singles and 4-1 in doubles.
John McEnroe
Best remembered for his fiery temper and explosive on-court battles with umpires, McEnroe is said to have revived US interest in the Davis Cup. McEnroe was the mainstay of the US Davis Cup Team and set several records, including

- Years played – 12
- Ties played – 30
- Singles wins – 41
McEnroe was also involved in an epic 6-hour, 22-minute victory over Swede Mats Wilander in 1982 – at the time, the longest match in Davis Cup History.
Mats Wilander
Former world number 1, Wilander was inducted to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2002. He was one of the Davis Cup champions in the highly successful Swedish Team of the 1980s. He holds an impressive 36-16 record in singles and a 7-2 doubles record in the Davis Cup.
