Davis Cup Winners
Over the history of the Davis Cup, only 12 nations have gone on to win the coveted trophy. The USA has topped the log with the most titles (an outstanding 31), closely followed by Australia, with 28 final wins. Although the USA was dominant in the twentieth century, they have failed to take the title since 1995.
Relative newcomers to the tournament Spain, Russia and Croatia have been successful in recent years and have taken all the wins in the twenty-first century, apart from France (2001) and Australia (2003).
Great Britain, with 9 titles, has not won the event since 1936, when the Davis Cup was still contested under the challenge round format. In 1972, the Final Round format was introduced.
South Africa won by default in 1974, when India refused to play due to the repressive policies of the apartheid regime in South Africa.
